M-Vision

Services

Five disciplines. One operating model: investor-operator thinking embedded in your company.

01

Fractional CTO / CIO

Best for

Seed-stage founders making their first architecture decisions. Series A companies preparing for technical investor scrutiny. Growth-stage teams whose engineering org has outgrown ad-hoc leadership.

M-Vision steps in as your head of technology — not as an advisor who reviews your work, but as an embedded executive who owns the function. Strategy, architecture, engineering culture, and board-level communication are all within scope.

What this covers
Technology strategy and roadmap
Architecture decisions and trade-offs
Engineering org design
Vendor and tooling evaluation
Investor and board communication
How it works
Weekly embedded time with the team
Attends leadership and board meetings
Defined decision-making authority
Scales with company stage
02

Board Advisory

Best for

Companies preparing for a Series A or B where the board needs credible technical representation. Investor-backed companies lacking a technical director voice in governance.

A board without technical expertise is a liability at the Series A and beyond. M-Vision takes formal advisory or observer roles on boards where an independent technology perspective shapes capital allocation, hiring decisions, and strategic direction.

Advisory scope
Formal board advisory or observer role
Technology committee participation
CTO hiring and performance review
Strategic roadmap evaluation
Value delivered
Independent technical voice in governance
Build vs buy vs partner decisions
Risk identification before it becomes incident
03

Investment & Technical Due Diligence

Best for

VCs and angels assessing deals where technical credibility determines valuation and terms. M-Vision also conducts self-diligence for founders preparing for investor scrutiny.

Most investment decisions involving a technology company require someone who can read code, evaluate architecture, and assess team competency — not just review a product demo. M-Vision conducts structured technical due diligence for investors and for founders preparing to raise.

Diligence scope
Architecture and scalability review
Technical debt and risk assessment
Engineering team evaluation
Build quality and process audit
IP and third-party risk
Output
Structured written assessment
Risk rating with remediation notes
Verbal debrief with investment team
Post-close advisory available
04

Team Building & Scaling

Best for

Post-seed companies making their first five engineering hires. Series A teams structuring an engineering org for the first time. Any company where the current team shape does not match the next 18 months.

The difference between a team that compounds and one that stagnates is mostly made in the first ten hires. M-Vision works directly on sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding — with a deliberate view to the org structure the company needs at the next stage, not just the current one.

What we help with
Engineering hiring process design
Role scoping and leveling frameworks
Candidate sourcing and screening
Technical interview design
Onboarding and ramp structure
Org design
Engineering management structure
Cross-functional collaboration model
Headcount planning for 12-24 months
05

Mentorship

Best for

Technical co-founders stepping into their first CTO role. Senior engineers transitioning to engineering leadership. Founders who code and need to stop coding.

The skills that make someone an excellent engineer are not the same skills that make someone an effective CTO. The transition is specific, often difficult, and rarely guided well. M-Vision works one-on-one with technical leaders on the decision-making, communication, and organizational challenges that define the executive role.

Topics covered
Fundraising and investor relations
Managing technical vs. business priorities
Board communication and preparation
Engineering culture and performance
Personal effectiveness as an executive
Format
Regular 1-on-1 sessions
Async support between sessions
Session notes and follow-up
Common questions

What founders typically ask us

How is fractional CTO/CIO different from an outside consultant?

A consultant delivers a report and leaves. A fractional CTO/CIO owns the function — they attend your standups, participate in hiring, join board calls, and make decisions. The relationship is measured in months, not days, and the scope includes accountability, not just advice.

We already have a strong VP of Engineering. Do we still need a fractional CTO?

Often yes. A VP of Engineering manages the team; a CTO sets the technology direction, communicates with investors, and makes the macro architectural bets. These are different jobs. If your VP is excellent at execution but the company needs more strategic technology leadership, M-Vision fills that gap.

How much time does a typical engagement require from us?

M-Vision engagements are structured to integrate with your existing rhythms. Onboarding takes roughly two weeks of intensive orientation. After that, the engagement typically involves weekly leadership meetings and async availability, with board meeting prep as needed. The exact time structure is agreed at the scope stage.

We are pre-product. Is it too early?

Pre-product is often when a fractional CTO adds the most value — the foundational architectural decisions made in the first 90 days shape everything that follows. It is far cheaper to get them right the first time than to refactor under investor pressure at Series A.

How do you handle confidentiality given you work with multiple companies?

M-Vision does not work with direct competitors simultaneously, and every engagement is governed by a mutual NDA. The network benefit — pattern recognition across companies — is precisely what makes M-Vision useful, and it flows only one way: general insight, never specific information.
